“Buying a home is an exciting time. But the process can be a little intimidating without good information,” says Chris Burk. HCCI’s Home Buyer Counselor and Educator.
Homebuyer education helps prospective homeowners understand the home buying process and the responsibilities of home ownership after they have the keys to their new home.
HCCI’s Homebuyer Workshop follows objectives recommended by HUD and by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka. Certificates of attendance are awarded at the completion of the workshop that verify participants have met the learning standards, as needed, for federally related mortgage loan products.
HCCI employs five HUD Exam-Certified Housing and Home Buyer Counseling and Education instructors. These instructors address: budgeting, insurance, credit scores, how to avoid loan scams known as “predatory lending” and loan options available from local lenders and major financial institutions
Home Buyer 101 covers budgeting for a down payment and closing expenses, finding the right house, working with a realtor, what lenders look for in your credit report and job history, financing options, closing process and responsibilities of home ownership.
